The Accel Boost (Japanese: アクセルブースト) is a yo-yo released in Japan by Bandai in July 2025 for its Hyper Yo-Yo Accel line.
It is the 5th model in the Hyper Yo-Yo Accel line, after Accel Loop. It was succeeded by the Accel Grab.
Like all models in the Hyper Yo-Yo Accel lineup, it features a unique side cap bearing system called the "Accel System", which uses two large side caps called "Accel disks" that can rotate independently from the body of the yo-yo. Because of the large side caps, it is very easy to hold the yoyo horizontally on one of the side caps without having to balance it with your finger, making it "the easiest yo-yo to perform the DNA trick with".
Features[]
The Accel Boost was marketed as a high performance model designed to excel all four previous Hyper Yo-Yo Accel yo-yo models in the line:
- Its "Accel Disks" are larger than those found in the Accel Origin, and also protrude from the yo-yo body. However, unlike the previous four models which usually had flat caps with a recessed middle, the whole disks are in a bowl shape.
- Its wing-shaped body was made wider with a bigger slope than the Accel Wing.
- It is about 5 grams heavier than the Accel Round.
- The response area is raised just like in the Accel Loop, only this time it is equipped with a silicone pad response instead of starbursts.
The bodies of the yo-yo also included flashier designs, with a glittered plastic body with rims painted with a metallic color, as well as using holographic foil and shiny metallic prints on the inside, evoking a more premium look compared to all four previous models (though it may look more "toy-ish" compared to actual professional yo-yos).
Performance and Criticism[]
Unfortunately, the only thing the Accel Boost excels at is its graphic design. Bandai, in its valiant efforts to create a "jack-of-all-trades" of the Hyper Yo-Yo Accel lineup, ended up producing a yo-yo that is "master of none".
First, the elephant in the room. The Accel Boost yo-yo WOBBLES VIOLENTLY as it spins. The wobbling is so bad, even worn out HyperCluster yo-yos aren't as wobbly as this yo-yo. This is a result of a design flaw involving the Accel System, as well as inconsistencies with the manufacturing process. Some owners may be lucky and get an Accel Boost unit that doesn't wobble as much as those of other owners, and they might mock them for "throwing it improperly". However, the fact that the performance could not be guaranteed in every unit is inexcusable.
Next, let's get to the features that were supposedly designed to excel all other models.
The bowl shape and extremely large size of the Accel Disks do make it easier to balance on the hand than all the other models, but they don't really solve any existing issue, as the other models (except the Accel Loop) are already easy to balance, thanks to the recessed middle part of the Accel Disks. Also, despite the thick Accel Disks protruding from the yo-yo body, it is still not as thick as those found in the Accel Origin, and therefore, it still fails to make the sideways DNA and AND performable.
The heavier weight should make the yo-yo sleep longer than the other models, but any sleep time is instantly killed by the wobble of the yo-yo. Throwing the yo-yo less forcefully could mitigate the wobble a bit, but it still results in a shorter sleep time.
Holding the yo-yo upright and pulling the string upwards then letting go of the yo-yo would result in a long sleeper that is stable at first, but gradually becomes wobbly as it spins. There is no escaping the wobble.
The raised response system doesn't help the sleep times either. It is safe to say that even the Accel Loop sleeps longer than the Accel Boost.
The wide range of the slope, which leads to a wide inner gap (not including the raised response system), makes landing string tricks much easier than the Accel Wing, so yes, it's also something this yo-yo excels at. However, with its extreme wobble and poor sleep times, would you even want to perform string tricks with this yo-yo?
Also, why is the response system raised anyway? Isn't it clear with the design of the Accel Loop that the large Accel Disks are the reason why looping tricks are impossible to perform? And to no surprise, the looping performance of the Accel Boost is poor. Don't let the stats on the packaging fool you; You CANNOT loop-the-loop with the Accel Boost. Even when you change the string to a thinner string, the angle of the loop is low, and the wing shape makes it difficult to control the loop.
Overall, the performance of this yo-yo is a disaster. Other models of the Hyper Yo-Yo Accel line all had performance that cannot compete with modern professional yo-yos, but can be excused by how they were marketed as easy-to-use yo-yos for elementary schoolers, and the "Accel System" feature made them more than worthwhile yo-yos to play with. However, the Accel Boost can be considered the first product in the Hyper Yo-Yo Accel line that was a total failure. The fact that they marketed it as a high-performance version of their other yo-yos when in reality, it failed to deliver even a passable performance was a disgrace.
Modification Options[]
Most likely you will purchase this yo-yo to complete the Hyper Yo-Yo Accel collection, but if you wanted to make the Accel Boost more acceptable for play, then you will have to mod it. However, as modding is not officially encouraged and it is not really designed to be modded, do it at your own risk.
Removing the sidecaps will result in potentially destroying the Accel System because the sidecaps are not meant to be removable (this is true for all Hyper Yo-Yo Accel models so far). But once you do, the wobble is eliminated, and you get a yo-yo with a long spin.
Also, by replacing the string with a thin polyester string, completely degreasing the included ball bearing, and playing the yo-yo until the silicone pads wear down a bit, you get a decent semi-responsive yo-yo for 1A play.
There's not much options for bearing replacements, as it uses a size A bearing. You can replace it with a concave bearing included in the Galaxy Fly yo-yo, or the ceramic ball bearing included in the HyperCluster Meteor Bahamut.
Official Description[]
HYPER YOYO ACCEL (2024)[]
This is a Hyper Yo-Yo line which comes with a new feature called the "Accel System", that has been patented in Japan and the US. It allows you to spin the main unit at high speed without throwing it by pulling the string vigorously while holding the main unit in your hand. By utilizing this feature, new tricks that could not be reproduced with conventional yo-yos are possible.
Accel Boost (2025) (Official Hyper Yo-Yo Website)[]
The "Accel Boost" features an internal silicone pad and a wide body, making it easy to return and perform string tricks. Its high spin rate and large Accel Disks make it ideal for sleeping tricks and Accel tricks. This top-of-the-line model is recommended for medium to high-difficulty tricks.
Recommended trick level: Super level to Master level
