Auldey

Not Tamiya.

Auldey Toys is a yo-yo manufacturer that is based in China. It was founded in 1993 solely for the purpose of producing and selling counterfeit versions of Tamiya Mini 4WD's in China, in which they dominated the market. Years later, they decided to expand into other popular toys in that period, including yo-yos.

Auldey started producing yo-yos in 1999, during which Bandai's first Hyper Yo-Yo series was still popular in Japan. Auldey wanted to bring those yo-yos to the Chinese market by using the same strategy they did with Tamiya Mini 4WD's: Produce counterfeit versions of them and sell them under their own line. Thus, the "Super Yo-Yo" (超级悠悠) line-up of yo-yos was born. They were popular enough that many other Chinese manufacturers produced their own counterfeit versions of Auldey's Yo-Yos; most notably, Aoda Toys.

Auldey would keep producing these yo-yos in the following years, while introducing new models using the same Yomega-based molds but with different colors, paints, print designs, and electronic components. Then in 2002, the anime Chousoku Spinner (Super Yo-Yo, 超速YoYo) aired in China, and with it, an official line of yo-yos based on the anime by Daniel & Co. was released. Auldey tried to cash in on the Super Yo-Yo hype by releasing their own set of yo-yos featuring characters suspiciously similar to the illustrations on the yo-yos of the official Super Yo-Yo line. It was also during this year that Auldey changed the name of their line of yo-yos to "Fire Yo-Yo" (火力悠悠), either to avoid or as a result of a legal conflict with Muse Communications, Ltd., who holds the license to use the brand "Super Yo-Yo" along with the characters from the anime Chousoku Spinner, despite the fact that Auldey used the name "Super Yo-Yo" first.

Auldey took notes from the hype and promotional campaigns created by the official Super Yo-Yo, and in 2006, Auldey promoted their line of yo-yos through their own television program called Blazing Teens (火力少年王), a teen-based soap opera that revolves around yo-yo players and competitions. Auldey Toys hosted large scale promotions in China, using the TV series to gain public interest, and starting in 2007, they also used this same strategy to promote their line of Blazing Teens-branded yo-yos in other markets in East and Southeast Asia. It was also during this time that Auldey started complementing their line of yo-yos using Yomega-copied parts with yo-yos using original designs. Many Southeast Asians started getting into yo-yoing by watching the Blazing Teens show and playing with yo-yos from that line, so it was thanks to Blazing Teens that Auldey started gaining a reputation in Asia as a major yo-yo manufacturer. Blazing Teens would go on for several seasons, each having their own line of new yo-yos.

Around 2010's Auldey has sponsored many World Yo-Yo Contests, and even became an official distributor of YoYoFactory products in China. They have also partnered with Hasbro in 2016 to release to the western market their line of yo-yos based on the animated series called Blazing Team: Masters of Yo Kwon Do, although it didn't do too well in the west. Auldey continued manufacturing yo-yos throughout the 2010's and into the 2020's under their "Auldey Yo-Yo Collection" line. In 2024, Auldey has even partnered with Mihoyo to produce yo-yos based on Honkai Impact 3rd. Their first product, Senadina's Custom Yo-yo, has just released in January.

Despite their widespread success in the Asian market, early Auldey yo-yo models were frowned upon by yo-yoers, due to their frequent copying of designs of other yo-yo manufacturers, as well as the build quality of some models being poor or inconsistent.
