Bandalore, one of the early names for the toy now known as a yo-yo, has been used in the Philippines to describe the toy for centuries. In other regions of the world, the yo-yo toy was referred to as a bandalore. The term “bandalore” appeared in literature as early as the late 18th century and has several different spellings, including bandelure, bandalor, and the more common spelling bandalore used in the 19th and early 20th centuries before 1928. In 1928, Pedro Flores introduced the word “yo-yo” to describe the toy and trademarked it. Consequently, the word “yo-yo” rapidly replaced the term Bandalore for describing the toy.
A bandalorist (which is a derivative of the word Bandalore) is an individual that collects yo-yos.
