The '''Mondial''' was released in 1998 by [[Came-Yo]], as a successor to the earlier [[Came-Yo Moonstar|Moonstar]]. Like its slightly lighter predecessor, the Mondial was an all-aluminium yo-yo, with rubber rings on the rim to cushion the blow on catching. It had an adjustable string gap, but the method of adjustment was a radical innovation at the time; a ratchet. Each click of the ratchet was claimed to adjust the width of the gap by half the width of a human hair. An added bonus was that this was a self-lubricating yo-yo: just inject some thick lube into the side, and the yo-yo would very slowly release it onto the bearing over time.

The Mondial was released in 1998 by Came-Yo, as a successor to the earlier Moonstar.

The rights to the Mondial are currently owned by Duncan, who sold it from the early 2000's to late 2009-2010 as part of the De-Luxxe series.

Trivia

  • The SB-3 by Tom Kuhn also featured a gap adjustment system using a ratchet.

Reviews

The Mondial was a very smooth playing yo-yo, when adjusted right, and at the time was perhaps the best yo-yo around for in-the-groove play. It has now been superseded by a plethora of low-response yo-yos, but is still a very nice player.

Original retail price was 99 GBP. --The Void 11:45, 4 Jan 2006 (PST)
