The Orb is a yo-yo produced by Duncan for the Hardcore series, released in 1999. It was advertised as being the "best-playing light-up yo-yo in history" at the time of its release.
Description[]
The Orb, made of a durable polymer, is a light-up yo-yo whose LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are powered by four 1.5v button batteries that are packaged with it.
It features a ball bearing axle for long sleep times and starburst response, and a ridged, Imperial-style body profile that would come to be inherited by later yo-yos in the Hardcore series, such as the Speed Beetle and the Pulse, which is also a light-up yo-yo.
The Orb also features an adjustable string gap, along with a motion-sensing switch that keeps the LEDs glowing as long as the user plays but turns them off 45 seconds after he/she stops playing. The Orb's LEDs light-up in multiple colors as the user plays with the yo-yo, as the long-lasting batteries provide the juice through the circuit boards underneath the clear side caps.
