Eric Tran-Ton (a.k.a. Eric Tranton) is a mowl ambassador and (former?) member of the Werrd team. He specializes in 3A, known for his highly technical and innovative tricks, and is very competitive in 1A as well.
His biography from Werrd is below.
Eric Tran-Ton is no stranger to the yoyo world, with 8 years of experience under his belt, he’s seen a lot of the changes that the yoyo world has gone through. His time in the yoyo community has helped him develop a style of yoyoing that is much different than any other yoyoer in North America, and it’s because of this that he is a well respected member in the yoyo scene. Eric is constantly pushing the boundaries of 3A, and has made a name for himself among the competitve 3A scene. His work in 3A pushed us to create a yoyo that would cater to his needs as a player, and so the TRE2K13 was born. After years of development his signature yoyo was born. Aside from being a yoyo enthusiast, he is an avid fan of jazz. Eric has been playing the saxophone for the past 9 years, and has gotten the opportunity to perform at some amazing venues in Chicago. He is also far too interested in cooking for it to be socially acceptable, and can cook up some decent food. Eric’s quite the hardworker, and we’re glad to have him be a part of the Werrd family.
In September 2020, he became the first mowl ambassador from the USA.
In September 2022 his first signature yo-yo from mowl was released, the Infiltrate. When asked about the most important design aspect of the Infiltrate, he responded:
The most important thing to me is the weight of the yoyo. I have always liked heavier yoyos, but a lot of the times when yoyo companies make a heavy yoyo it feels too slow on the string. So during the design of this yoyo I wanted to make sure that the yoyo was easy to move around during rail combos, while still retaining that feeling of power upon catching it. In other words, I wanted the yoyo to feel like it could put a hole in a wall, while still being really fast.
The retail description for the Infiltrate is provided below:
The Infiltrate is the newest addition to the mowl lineup and is the signature model of USA Chicago based professional yoyo player Eric Tran-Ton.
ROUNDED SHAPE DESIGNED WITH COMFORT IN MIND.
Instead of featuring sharp edges like many modern yo-yos, mowl designed this yo-yo with Eric’s preference in mind. The rounded edges allows the player to maneuver the yo-yo through intricate string formations with ease, and minimizes the risk of the edges catching the string during long combos. The rounded edges also ensure that each catch feels soft in the hand.
OPERABILITY AND STABILITY DUE TO WEIGHT BALANCE.
Coming in at 67 grams, the weight may seem quite heavy by modern standards, however the way that the weight has been distributed allows for this yoyo to glide easily across the string. Mowl wanted the yoyo to be able to float through long combos with ease, without sacrificing the spin time and stability of yo-yos that Eric likes.
ABOUT DEVELOPMENT OF THE INFILTRATE
Through prototyping Eric and mowl were able to find an amazing balance of floaty yoyo spin with increased stability for Eric’s long combos, which he specializes in.
In order to accomplish this the original design was fine tuned further using 7075 aluminum versus the original being in 6061. They succeeded in keeping core stability while retaining a soft and comfortable feeling, and the second prototype was official.
In November 2024 a titanium version of the Infiltrate was released, the Infiltrate Ti. The description provided for the Infiltrate Ti follows:
Hailing from Chicago, USA, mowl Ambassador Eric Tran-Ton is renowned for his polished technical tricks, showcased across social media and his standout promo videos. A multi-discipline player excelling in both 1A and 3A, Eric has honed his craft with the “Infiltrate,” his signature yo-yo. Now, the evolution of his artistry takes form in the “Infiltrate Ti,” a titanium upgrade that embodies Eric’s vision for exceptional performance.
The Infiltrate Ti was born from Eric’s experience at the 2023 PNWR contest, where he tested a variety of titanium models. While all performed well, none sparked the excitement he sought in a titanium yo-yo. This fueled his mission to design something unique, delivering the "wow" factor he felt was missing. With the Infiltrate Ti, Eric focused on refining weight distribution, ensuring it offers exceptional spin power and stability by concentrating rim weight while maintaining a weight profile close to the original 7075 version.
Eric carefully preserved the rounded, comfortable shape of the 7075 Infiltrate while slightly increasing the width to enhance trick execution. This thoughtful update ensures a perfect balance between maneuverability, power, and comfort, making it a standout in titanium yo-yo design. The Infiltrate Ti is a testament to Eric’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of performance and bringing new energy to titanium throws.
