The Side Effects are an interchangeable axle hub system developed by One Drop, and was introduced in 2010. It was first featured with One Drop's 54 yo-yo.

Description[]

A Side Effect is a small, two-piece metal hub containing a yo-yo axle, rubber rings to help it stay in place when a yo-yo is equipped with it and assembled in that way, and a shape on each body half. Originally meant to protect the axle, the Side Effect can also be used to regulate the yo-yo's weight, as well as to provide visual impact.

Side Effects are made of aluminum or brass, and come in different shapes, such as spikes, domes, discs, and flat caps. One variant has ball bearings so that hubstacks could be equipped to the yo-yo, and another has pegs for attaching Lego pieces for a fun and creative twist. Some non-brand yo-yos that are officially licensed to use these parts, such as the Anti-Yo Ywet series, come with their own special Side Effect parts, which are also sold separately.
