The Trilogy is the first full-metal yo-yo produced by Spintastics, released in 2009.
It features a large C-bearing with a metal concave sleeve that centers the string for unresponsive play. It has silicone response, and has golden-colored grind rings on its sides. However, the yo-yo's most distinctive feature is its hub spinners, which are essentially metal hubstacks. The yo-yo also came in four different colorways.
Its axle system, similar in functionality to the Duncan MoMentuM, consists of a screw that screws into the side of the yo-yo and holds the bearing in place. So as long as the axle hole is threaded all the way through to the outside, the hub spinners can be equipped to the yo-yo. The screw head also acts as the bearing seat. This axle system had also eliminated the need for axle hubs or O-rings for equipping the hub spinners.
Unfortunately, the Trilogy was a massive failure and was an unpopular yo-yo for it, due to bad marketing and a number of design flaws. For one, its atrocious weight distribution had left much to be desired and lead to a sluggish feeling of play. It also felt hollow, and not in a good way. Another problem lays in its hub spinners, which did not always work as well as intended and had a bad build quality. The Trilogy had also suffered from vibration problems, and was a little too heavy at almost 80 grams in weight. The response system, though it used silicone, hadn't always worked right.
Not helping things, was that Dale Oliver had ignored any kind of negative criticism directed towards the yo-yo, and had even outright denied its flaws, according to some players on the YoYoNation forum. [1]
Thankfully, however, Spintastics had since learned from their mistakes with the Trilogy and stepped up their game since then, with the release of yo-yos such as the Blade and the Torus.
