The Goemon is a yo-yo produced by Turning Center, released in 2013.

Description[]

The Goemon is a high-end looping/2A yo-yo designed for competition play, developed over three years in the making. The original Goemon prototype had won 1st Place in the Mods Division of the 2013 Worlds, along with praise from many players, collectors and manufacturers alike.

Manufactured in-house at Turning Center, the Goemon is machined out of delrin (similarly to the RecRev Reverb and the original 2014 version of YoYoRecreation Negator) with anodized aluminum side bezels holding checkerboard-patterned wooden side caps. The side caps are made of different woods in an traditional Japanese artistic woodworking technique called "Yosegi-zaiku". The yo-yo also features a standard A-sized bearing with spacers and rubber O-ring response. It also comes included with two spare O-rings.

Due of the manufacturing processes of each component, the Goemon is a looper unlike any other of its time, and because the delrin body is machined, it has a smoothness that could not be attained from injection-molded plastic models. Because of its high-end nature, the yo-yo sells for around $120 USD apiece, making it perhaps the most expensive in its class.

Trivia[]

  • The Goemon is named in reference to semi-legendary Japanese folk hero Ishikawa Goemon (石川 五右衛門), a Robin Hood-like outlaw who stole from the wealthy and gave to the poor.
  • As of current, the most expensive looping yo-yo is the Cerevo 7-Magic, which retails for $350 USD.
