The Ricochet is a limited production yo-yo produced by YoYoFactory in 2013.

Description[]

As a first for YoYoFactory, the Ricochet's body halves are manufactured entirely out of titanium, which is much more durable for its weight than the 6061 or 7075 aluminum alloys as used in most other yo-yos in the line-up. On top of that, titanium can be made thinner, as it is here, so titanium products can be stronger and lighter than aluminum. However, it is more expensive and harder to work with than the aforementioned, so production was limited to 500 pieces, 250 in Raw Silver and the other 250 in Blue. It has a natural Butterfly shape, with a Center Trac bearing and Large Slim-sized silicone pads by CBC, and also comes included with a YoYoFactory Multi-Tool and an extra bearing.

As most people in the yo-yo community knows, titanium sparks when it is struck against pavement, thus allowing for even flashier walking the dog, or the owner could just simply covet it in its display case. Because the yo-yo is made of titanium, its stability and smoothness, along with the great sense of control it provides cannot be replicated by any other metal. However, using a titanium axle on the Ricochet would cause it and the body halves to chemically bond together, making it impossible to take apart, thus the yo-yo uses an aluminum axle.

In March 2015, YoYoFactory initiated an fundraising campaign for developing a new titanium yo-yo, the Titanium Dream. The target goal was $20,000, and the amount of money raised was more than that, at $54,000+. Those that backed the fundraiser with purchases of the Titanium Dream would also receive a special aluminum version of the yo-yo if the money was raised to $30,000.

Trivia[]

  • The Ricochet was the actually second yo-yo in which YoYoFactory worked with titanium alloy, the first being the very expensive Catch 22.
