The Las Vegas Open Championship was inaugurated in December 2014 as the seeding event for North America to the World Yo-Yo Contest. Held in conjunction with SkillCon, a convention open to skill toy players of all kinds, and is hosted annually by the World Juggling Federation at the Riviera Hotel Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. In addition to the contest, there are various workshops and related events designed to promote cross pollination of skill toy techniques of all kinds. The contest was held in November 2015 at the Golden Nugget Hotel.

The contest in its North American seed and International standing would cease. Later the Scales Collective would host the Vegas Open again with Skillcon in November 2019 at Container Park. The contest was changed in its structure on the switch.
