Rei Iwakura is a six time Japanese 4A World Champion and one time AP World Champion, former member of Team YoYoJam, and current member of Team C3yoyodesign. He is also recognized for his inventive Artistic Performance routines as well as innovative use of Soloham Offstring tricks. Rei so far has had two signature Offstring yo-yos, each made by a different company.
Rei's six 4A world titles and one Artistic Performance title makes him one of two people in History to be a Seven Time World YoYo Champion. Sharing that title count with Takeshi Matsuura. The two of them are tied for third to the one with the most World titles at thirteen, Shinji Saito.
In addition Rei also has earned eight Japan National 4A titles. One less then the two players (Takeshi Matsuura and Takuma Yamamoto) tied for the most Japan National titles at nine.
As a side gig he also plays Diabolos, where he will sometimes play the role of M.C. (master of ceremonies) at Diabolo and YoYo Contests.
He is also known for his professional looking performances, performing his skillset as a full time job in Japan. Given his performing experience he has practiced his craft to high levels of consistency.
Rei would win his first World Title performing a drop-less routine in 2008 (he did have a small fumble on attempting a regeneration keeping it from being a flawless routine). Starting in 2012 he would incorporate Soloham into his routines, later he solidified his style and win the 2014 World Title on a flawless run, Then he would go flawless again in 2016 and 2017 for those world titles while using his Signature Flawless yoyo. So far no other 4A World Champion has won on a flawless routine.
2023 is the last year of Rei being a competitor in the yo-yo scene. Thanks to being seeded in the finals for being the reigning champion since 2019, Rei performed his last competitive routine at the WYYC 2023 held in Osaka. Japan. His freestyle is a tribute to all the winning routines he had in that competition, where the music used for that routine is a complete mix of his past winning routines.
Rei is currently running the Rewind Store in Shibuya, Japan, together with Shinya Kido, WYYC 2009 1A Division champion.
