YoYo Wiki

The Hideyoshi is a yo-yo first released by Sengoku on December 11th, 2015.

Description[]

The Hideyoshi is a yo-yo made of more than one kind of metal. However, it takes things one step further than the Nobunaga and Masamune models. It is made of not one or two, but three different types of metals, making it the very first "tri-metal" yo-yo. The Hideyoshi's construction consists of a main body machined from 7075 aluminum into a Step Straight shape, along with a pair of stainless steel rings on the outer rims, and finally, brass rings on the inner lips of the rims.

Although it is made of three different metals, which would make it sound as if it would be very heavy, the Hideyoshi's overall weight is distributed in strategic positions throughout. In that way, the yo-yo could weigh less and play faster. It also features handmade silicone IrPads in the popular Large Slim size, along with a v-shaped Terrapin X Delta Cut bearing.

Not wanting to force players to have to pay $300+ USD for their new tri-metal yo-yo, Sengoku made the difficult decision of moving the Hideyoshi's production to China, in order to lower the retail price to about $198 USD and make it more affordable to people.

The first version of the Hideyoshi was released on December 11th, 2015 in a light purple coloration. On the first of February 2016, a black version was released on Sengoku's online store, and was released worldwide on February 26th, 2016. A final limited run of blue Hideyoshis was released on May 21st, 2016, after which the yo-yo is officially discontinued.

Trivia[]

  • The Hideyoshi is named after Toyotomi Hideyoshi (豊臣秀吉), who was known for setting the restriction that only the samurai class could carry arms, as well as financing the construction, restoration and rebuilding of many temples that are still standing today in the city of Tokyo. He had once served under Oda Nobunaga, before succeeding him and bringing the Sengoku period to an end, and was regarded as Japan's second "great unifier" from this.
  • The YoYoJam Triple Jam is also a yo-yo whose body composition is made of three different materials, in which case being plastic, Heavy Gravity, and rubber.
  • The Hideyoshi marks the first time that Sengoku does not implement a YoYoRecreation DS bearing for their yo-yos, along with outsourcing production of one of their products to China in order to lower the price tag.
