The Mideast Regional Contest (MER) in the United States is one of the nine regional contests in the US, and covers the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. The contest first started in 2002 and was held in Cleveland Ohio and organized by Steve Brown. Then in 2005, Takeshi Kamisato hosted it in Indianapolis Indiana on the following weekend after the World Yo-Yo Contest with some international attendees staying in the country to attend that year. In 2006 the contest returned to Cleveland ran by Steve Brown for what he claims was his last time. From 2007 to 2016, Jake Maloney would run the contest starting outside at the Kellogg Park Bandshell in 2007/8, then secured the Plymouth Michigan Cultural Center the following years. Yoyotricks.com assisted Jake Maloney in running the contest in 2016 in Plymouth, then ran it solo July 8th 2017 in Indianapolis's Indiana Convention Center as a part of the comic and pop culture event, Indy PopCon. Contest repeated at PopCon in 2018.

No one hosted the event in 2019. The 2020, 2021 and 2022 contests were cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
