The California by YoYoFactory is a departure from the Red Alert Series. It features the hubstacks and precision manufacturing of the 888, but its size, shape, and weight are reminiscent of the F.A.S.T. 401k. Moreover, it has a beadblasted finish to make for great grinds, but the face of the yo-yo is masked-off beforehand to reduce the chances of string cutting.
The VK by YoYoFactory is, in its simplest form, a small bearing California. The name VK comes from the initials of its designer, Vaclav "Vashek" Kroutil. It features the same bead-blasting technique and hubstacks. The only real difference is the small A-sized bearing, resulting in a smaller gap and therefore slightly thinner width, and is three grams lighter.
